Conditional logic
Conditional logic is a rule that says: “show this field only when…”. It lets a form adapt to each respondent, so nobody answers questions that do not apply to them.
Without conditional logic a form has to carry every question for every situation. Consumers still see a company-ID field. People returning an item still read questions about exchanges. The result is a longer form and fewer completed responses.
With conditional logic the form branches. The question “Do you need a company invoice?” decides whether billing fields appear. The “I'm requesting” choice decides whether you ask for a bank account or a replacement size.
Rules can be composed — a condition may combine several fields with AND/OR, and control not only individual fields but whole steps of a multi-step form.
In practice
- Show a field when another field has a given value.
- Hide a field that makes no sense in that branch.
- Make a field required only in a specific situation.
- Skip an entire form step.
