Contract for work template
In a contract for work, a contractor agrees to deliver a finished piece of work and the client agrees to accept it and pay. Below is a plain template for repairs, renovations and smaller jobs — copy it, download it for Word, or have it filled in and signed online.
Contract for work template
Describe the work so precisely that it is clear when it is finished. Put a long specification in an annex.
CONTRACT FOR WORK
Parties
Client: [full name / company name], [date of birth / company ID], [address]
Contractor: [full name / company name], company ID [ID], [address], bank account [account number]
1. The work
The contractor will carry out the following work for the client at its own cost and risk: [description, scope, materials] (the “work”). [A detailed specification is in Annex 1.]
The client will accept the work and pay the price set out in this contract.
2. Place and time
The work will be carried out at [address]. The contractor will start on [date] and hand over the finished work by [date].
3. Price and payment
The price is a fixed [amount] [excluding / including VAT].
The client pays a deposit of [amount] by [date] (delete if no deposit). The balance is paid after handover against an invoice due in [14] days.
Extra work is done only after a written agreement on its scope and price.
4. Handover and acceptance
The parties record the handover in a handover report. The client accepts the work with or without reservations.
5. Defects and warranty
The contractor gives a [24]-month warranty from acceptance. The client reports defects without undue delay; the contractor fixes them within [30] days unless agreed otherwise.
6. Contractual penalty
If the work is late, the contractor pays [0.05] % of the price for each day of delay.
7. Final provisions
This contract takes effect when both parties sign it and can be changed only in writing. It is made in two copies, one for each party.

Things to check
- Most disputes are about what exactly had to be done — describe the scope, the materials and the result.
- A fixed price does not change if the job costs the contractor more; a budget-based price needs a cap on overruns.
- Acceptance usually starts the warranty and the final payment — a handover report with photos saves arguments.
How to fill in and sign it online
- 1
Turn the template into a form
Anything that changes — names, addresses, amounts, dates — becomes a field. The fixed wording goes in as a text block, so the other side reads all of it but cannot edit it.
- 2
Add a signature field
People sign with a finger on a phone or with a mouse. When both sides sign at once, for example at a handover, add two signature fields and sign on one device.
- 3
Send the link
A link, a QR code or the form embedded on your site. It works on phones and computers, with no app and no account.
- 4
The PDF arrives by e-mail
After submitting, a PDF with the answers and the signature is generated and e-mailed. Every response keeps the time and IP address as an audit trail.
Where the template ends and a lawyer begins
This is a general template, not legal advice, and the rules differ from country to country. Adapt it to your situation and local law, and have a lawyer review it for larger amounts or long-term arrangements. Gatherino does not provide legal advice.
FAQ
Is the template free?
Yes. Copy the text or download it for Word for free, no sign-up. The online version with a signature works on the free plan up to 100 responses a month.
Can both sides sign online?
Yes, when they sign together: the form has two signature fields and both sign on one device at a meeting. Gatherino does not send a contract to the other side to countersign remotely.
Can I add a handover report?
Yes, as a separate form with photos, reservations and a signature that generates a PDF.
